Los Angeles Ironmen player Ryan Martin will join LA Critical for 2012 NPPL 7-man series play. He will continue to play with the Ironmen in 2012 PSP series play.

“We are very excited to have Ryan Martin from the LA Ironmen on board with us for the rest of the 2012 NPPL season. Ryan will be a crucial part of the LA Critical team and we look forward to the rest of the season,” said Edwin Dolgopyat, Team Captain.

According to Paintball Access, Ryan Martin is currently ranked 8th overall in the PSP professional division and has a huge impact on the field. Prior to playing with Critical and the Ironmen, Martin competed professionally with San Diego Dynasty and Newport Entourage.

Ryan’s addition to LA Critical will definitely help the new pro paintball team move up the ranks.

• Bea Youngs, Kat Secor, and Katie Kelly of Destiny are making their return at NPPL HB. They will be joining the girls from Poison Ivy in division 1. We watched Poison Ivy compete at the Malaysia World Cup and were very impressed with the level of play. They should do very well in the NPPL format. Good luck Girls!

Infamous to play NPPL

• Last week we dropped word that Infamous might be making a late entry  into the NPPL. ProPaintball insiders confirmed that this is the case. According to sources, Infamous will have Travis Lemanski, Kali Rudolph, Bobby Aviles, Nicky Cuba, Drew Templeton, Zack Patient and Greg Siewers rostered at NPPL HB.

• Portland Uprising made several last minute adjustments to the roster. According to ProPaintball insiders, the team will feature Ryan Tucker, Tommy Tucker, Aaron Ormrod, Nicholas Omrod, Blake Bearham, Johnny Grier, Ryan Martin and Jimmy Hickey. The guys will be shooting MacDev Clone GT’s and sporting head to toe PBRack paintball gear.

• Sounds like a few pro teams will be getting in a last minute grind at Whittier on Thursday morning. Word is LA Critical, Portland Uprising, and Texas Storm are doing a bit of warm up before they walk the fields later in the afternoon.

• HK Army decided to play Division 1 instead of making the leap to pro. The guys will be playing as Giant HK and will probably show up to one or two events max. So much for the dream of one day having a pro team.

• Pro Paintball insiders tell mentioned that Infamous MIGHT be competing at the NPPL Surf City Open. After an off-season full of rumors that Infamous had left the NPPL to focus on the Race-To format, word is they might be coming back for one event or the entire series. Infamous players Damian Ryan and Brad McCurly play with Chicago Legend while Kali is rumored to be playing with DC Arsenal. The big holdup appears to be filling the Infamous roster with talented players for the event.

• Paul “P4″ Katic (ret. Arsenal) is rumored to be playing with Hollywood HK. Also in the mix is Mark Lack (ret. Entourage/Dynasty). Lack took a break from the pro field to refocus on his college education and is said to have the paintball itch. Word is both P4 and Lack will be joining HK on the pro field at NPPL Huntington Beach next week.

• Rumors ran back and forth about the future of the Indianapolis Mutiny program after the teams no-show at NPPL Las Vegas last season. According to ProPaintball Insiders, Tommy’O and the gang will be back on the pro field at the Surf City Open.

• Patrick Hughes (ret. Aftermath) is said to be making a come back in time for NPPL HB. No word yet as to what team he will be playing with.

• Over the weekend several pro teams converged on Camp Pendleton Paintball Park in Southern California to practice for NPPL HB. XSV, Impact, Dynasty, and Critical were mixing it up. Unfortunately for them, mother nature made things “interesting” by dumping a ton of rain on the park.

• Stoned Assassins are said to be returning. The team played the D-League (RPL) trying to get back in the groove. Whether they will be a one hit wonder, or play out the entire season remains to be seen.

X-Factor puts the beat down on Impact

According to ProPaintball insiders an NPPL reality paintball tv show is in the wings. Word is the paintball tv show will be based out of San Diego, California and highlight NPPL players and the paintball lifestyle. The details to the reality show are a bit fuzzy and change depending upon who you talk to. Here is what we have heard; the reality tv show “is in the works”, “in production”, “going on tv”, “a big network has picked it up”, and lastly, that its just “an idea being tossed around and might one day be a Youtube exclusive”. ProPaintball insiders point to the later, but at this point, anything is possible.

NPPL/UTB rumors have started making their rounds as well. Apparently, the promotional video for Ultimate Tazer Ball (UTB) (which went viral on Youtube) has caught the eye of the NPPL promoters. According to ProPaintball insiders, the league is considering hosting one of or a series of UTB events at some point during the NPPL series.

On another note, word is that Valken may be the sole (exclusive?) paintball provider to the NPPL this season. According to sources, the league has opened the door to other paintball vendors but no interest has been shown as of writing. Historically, major league paintball events are event paint only. According to the NPPL Rulebook:

9.01 Specifications. In accordance with marker requirements, paintballs must be .68 or .50 caliber. Paintballs used at any NPPL tournament must be purchased onsite from the League or a sponsor paintball manufacturer that has certified compliance with ASTM standards and meets NPPL non-staining criteria available on the official NPPL website www.nppl.com Players may not bring any paintballs onto the site which are not supplied from within the Players Paddocks. See Exhibits ASTM Standard F1979-04.Paintballs not supplied on site by approved onsite NPPL vendors is considered Prohibited Paint. See Rule 18.01 (5)

If no other paintball vendors express interest in making paintballs available at the NPPL, Valken will become the exclusive paintball supplier by default.

What will this mean for teams that are sponsored by KEE and GI Sports? Will paintball teams be forced to shoot their competitors paintballs, or, will they decide to play in another league instead?

One of the NPPL’s highlight Divisional teams is returning to the series. Arsenal Kidz is a team based of players from the U.S. Northeast. We are told that a few old school ‘Kidz will be filling out the roster.

Fans will recall the success of the Arsenal Kidz in the NPPL. Taking home consistent 1st place finishes and dominating Divisional play in the NPPL, the return of the team will no doubt breathe new life into the restructuring Arsenal franchise. Arsenal Kidz were one of few outstanding teams from the Northeast to bring national interest to the region. At the time- it seemed there was no stopping the Arsenal Kidz, but with a variety of Arsenal franchise teams at the time, the Kidz would eventually dissolve.

As we reported earlier Today, Tom Fore, Owner of the Arsenal franchise, will indeed be involved with the development of the team. It is reported to be the farm team we mentioned earlier. Rick Carver (from OXCC) is said to be making strides with team management and that the team will be based out of Outdoor Xtreme Chesapeake City (OXCC) Paintball Park of Chesapeake City, Maryland.
