The VICIOUS Tournament Series is proud to announce that ETV (Planet Eclipse TV) will be on hand to film the 2010 VICIOUS Streetball Tournament, held on October 17, 2010. ETV will be on hand to film games, as well as conduct random player interviews for their 2011 ETV DVD. The addition of ETV to an already great atmosphere that the Streetball Tournament provides is sure to make this a day of paintball you don’t want to miss out on!!

History:
The first Streetball Tournament, in 2007, was a huge success. All those who participated enjoyed the event. Beginners, with the help of players from Team VICIOUS, were able to have fun, gain experience, and learn more about the sport. More advanced players had the opportunity to play with a different group of people and in a different atmosphere than the normal tournament setting, while still being able to enjoy the competitive nature as well as learn from their team captains, all players of Professional Team VICIOUS.

The VICIOUS Streetball events held the following 3 years proved to be just as exciting, with the events continually growing in size and popularity. We are looking to continue the tradition of fun for the 4th year in a row with the 2010 VICIOUS Streetball Tournament!

What it is:
The Streetball Tournament is a fun and relaxed 7-player event in which players are randomly assigned to teams by a lottery system before the event. New to the game? Don’t have a team? It doesn’t matter. All players of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. Teams are split up evenly, based on each player’s experience level, determined by their ranking in the American Paintball Players Association (APPA)*. This offers a chance for those with little to no paintball experience to become introduced with a more tournament-styled paintball atmosphere. It also offers a more laidback and unique change of pace for those more experienced players. Each team will be captained by a member of Team VICIOUS, who will assist players by giving tips, answering questions, etc. In addition, each team will receive their own distinct jerseys which the players get to keep. The tournament is made to be as inexpensive as possible, encouraging newer players to participate.

How it works:
Teams are chosen at random through a lottery system. Names are drawn, by chance, based on each player’s APPA* ranking, and assigned to a team. All players with an APPA* ranking of D2 will be drawn first, followed by those with a D3 ranking, followed by D4, and so on, until all players have been assigned teams. Each team will have a member of Team VICIOUS playing with them and acting as the team captain. Due to teams being picked based solely on a lottery system, the playing abilities of each team as a whole are relatively equal among all the teams. This helps ensure that all players attending the event have a fun and positive experience.

* The APPA is an independent player tracking system, used to classify players based on their level of tournament experience. Those with no tournament experience within the APPA system will still be required to sign up and receive a unique identification number to help ensure accuracy in the lottery system.

Event Date:
Sunday October 17, 2010

Event Location:
The 2010 VICIOUS Streetball Tournament is held at Metro Paintball Games in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The doors will open at 8:00am for player check-in the morning of Sunday October 17, 2010

The address and other information for Metro Paintball Games can be found on their website,http://www.MetroPaintballGames.com
Under the “Lodging” section of their website is a list of hotels that are close to the field that offer discounted rooms to players. There is also a wide variety of restaurants close to the hotels and field.

Entry Fee:
Registration for the 2010 VICIOUS Streetball Tournament is $45 per player (due when the player signs up). This includes a custom 2010 Streetball Tournament jersey for the player to keep, as well as includes the field fee and air fee.
Unfortunately, we do have to put a limit on the number of players that can attend the event. To help ensure that you get a spot in the tournament this year, make sure to sign up early so you don’t miss out!!!

Paint:
The 2010 VICIOUS Streetball Tournament is an Event Paint Only event. Paintballs will be priced at $60 (after tax) per case of 2000 paintballs. In order to help ensure that the event is fair and fun for every player, the teams will be using team paint for their games. This means that at the beginning of the day each player purchases a single case of paint, and the team as a whole uses all of this paint first. After this paint has been consumed, each player will pitch in more paint as necessary. If the team only needs to purchase 4 more cases, then the cost of tose 4 cases is divided evenly among everyone on the team.

This year we have elected to have a higher grade of paint available at the tournament than in years past. We feel this will help ensure a fun environment for all of the participating players.

APPA (American Paintball Players Association):
Each player is required to have an APPA identification number for the 2010 VICIOUS Streetball Tournament. This id number must be submitted when the player signs up for the tournament. If you do not have an APPA number, you can sign up for one at http://www.paintball-players.org Please make sure the information you submit is correct, as it will be used to determine your APPA rank, and will impact which round of the lottery you are picked in.

To sign up today you can email JTopping@discountspecialtysports.com OR you can call the store directly and talk to Jake at 402-502-3434
ALL ENTRY FEES MUST BE RECEIVED BY 6PM ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2010.

The first event of the VICIOUS RaceTo Series kicked off May 1st and 2nd at Mad Cow Paintball in Louisville, Nebraska and saw 36 teams compete in the RaceTo-2 and RaceTo-4 divisions. At the end of Saturday, with RaceTo-2 play completed, AAF from Maple Plains, Minnesota took home 1st place, with Reagan’s Army (Lawrence, KS) taking 2nd, DVS (Louisville, NE) taking 3rd, and New Jack Ghetto (Des Moines, IA) rounding out the top 4.

The RaceTo-4 division saw 16 teams from 8 states competing for 1st place with play stretching out over 2 days. At the end of the weekend, Aimless Factory from Sioux Falls, South Dakota took 1st place. Rounding out the top 4 were the Po’ Boys (Columbia, MO) getting 2nd, Dirtlife2 (St, Louis, MO) taking 3rd place, and HuSTLe (also from St. Louis, MO) taking 4th place.

The 2nd stop of the VICIOUS RaceTo Series took place June 5th and 6th at Metro Paintball Games in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This event saw some new faces in the RaceTo-2 division taking place on Saturday, but at the end AAF continued their reign as Event Champions, with team Extortion (Kansas City, MO) raking 2nd place, the Po’ Boys (Columbia, MO) taking 3rd place, and the Mac Daddy Allstars receiving 4th place. With their 2nd event win at this event, AAF took a commanding lead in the overall series standings, sitting 12 points ahead of the 2nd place team.

The RaceTo-4 teams continued the action Saturday afternoon and Sunday with great paintball being played throughout the tournament. As the dust settled, Dirtlife2 was able to overcome Aimless Factory (the event 1 winners) to take first place. Coming in at 2nd place was Aimless Factory (Sioux Falls, SD), with New Jack Ghetto (Des Moines, IA) taking 3rd place, and Air Assault Paintball (Maple Plains, MN) receiving 4th place. With their win at this event, Dirtlife2 moved within 2 points of Aimless Factory in the overall Series standings for RaceTo-4.

The final event in the VICIOUS RaceTo Series took place at CJ’s Paintball Adventures, just outside of Lincoln, NE and it did not disappoint! This event saw great play from all of the teams that were in attendance in both the RaceTo-2 and RaceTo-4 divisions. Everyone at DSSP8ntball.com, VICIOUS, and Discount Specialty Sports as well as all of the host fields and sponsors would like to congratulate everyone in attendance for helping make this series such a success!

The RaceTo-2 division took place on Saturday and saw teams from all over the Midwest compete at the event. After some intense games and a few new teams making the preliminary round cuts, team Yellow Jackit from South Dakota emerged victorious as the RaceTo-2 Event #3 winners. Reagan’s Army (Lawrence, KS) took 2nd place, Extortion (Kansas City, MO) took 3rd place, and Po’ Boys – Wasted Talent (Columbia, MO) received 4th. Also on the line at this event was the overall RaceTo-2 Series Championship. With help from their performances at the first two VICIOUS Series events, team AAF from Minnesota was able to capture the Series Championship, and receive a World Cup prize package valued at over $3,200.

The RaceTo-4 division took place Saturday afternoon and Sunday, with teams traveling from over 12 hours away to attend the tournament. With 2 new teams entering the RaceTo-4 bracket, this final event promised to provide some great action, and it did not disappoint! As the day wore on, the final match-up for 1st and 2nd place came down to Aimless Factory and Dirtlife2. With Dirtlife2 being 2 points behind Aimless in the Series standings, Dirtlife2 needed to pull off the 1st place win to tie the series standings, and still have a chance to capture the Series Championship. At the end of the finals match, Dirtlife2 would come up victorious for a 2nd tournament in a row, winning the RaceTo-4 Event #3 and keeping their dreams of winning the Overall Series Championship alive. Also in the top 4 for the final event was New Jack City (Des Moines, IA) taking 3rd place, and Reagan’s Army (Lawrence, KS) receiving 4th.

With Dirtlife2 winning the final event of the RaceTo-4 Series, it now brought Aimless Factory and Dirtlife2 to a tie in Series Points, both with 288 points overall. To determine the Series Champion, the teams had to play 1 on 1’s, best 2 out of 3. The first matchup was Josh from Dirtlife2 playing against Seth from Aimless Factory. Josh proved the victor after some intense gun-fighting, but with only a few seconds remaining, he wasn’t able to hang the flag in time. The 2nd matchup in the 1 on 1’s put Amos from Aimless Factory against Brock from Dirtlife2. At the start of the game, Brock worked his way to the tall cake on the snake side of the field, with Amos taking advantage of the pins on the snake side as well. Brock eliminated Amos, hanging the flag and putting Dirtlife2 ahead with a score of 1 to 0. The next matchup placed Adam from Aimless Factory against Brian from Dirtlife2. Adam quickly worked his way to the tall magic stick on the snake side of the field, while Brian moved through the doritos. As he moved from the doritos to the A at the 50, Brian was able to eliminate Adam, sealing the Series Championship for Dirtlife2, and receiving the Series Prize of a PSP World Cup package valued at over $5,000.

The 2010 VICIOUS RaceTo Series Outstanding team award goes to Reagan’s Army from Lawrence, KS. Reagan’s Army has traditionally competed in 5 man events, and in the 2010 VICIOUS Series the team placed highly at each event:
Event #1 – 2nd Place
Event #2 – 5th Place
Event #3 – 2nd Place

While participating in the RaceTo-2 portion of the series, the team also tried their hand at the RaceTo-4 division as well, without having any real experience with the continual RaceTo format, being forced to learn as they went. Through a positive attitude both on and off the field, great sportsmanship, and an obvious love of playing paintball, the team continued to learn about the format and adjust to the new style of play. With their first 2 showings at the RaceTo-4 events were below the team’s expectations the team worked even harder and showed more and more determination leading up to the final event to show improvement and to prove to everyone that they could hold their own in both formats.

Through perseverance and hard work Reagan’s Army was able to come away with a 4th place finish at the final VICIOUS Series Event. This team is a true example of what regional teams should represent, and we would like to congratulate them on receiving the 2010 VICIOUS RaceTo Series Outstanding Team award!

Event #1 – 8th Place
Event #2 – 9th Place
Event #3 – 4th Place

We would also like to wish a Happy 21st Birthday to Max Fairlamb of Reagan’s Army that took place over the weekend!

Saturday:

The weekend started out wet and very muddy. Overnight Friday and into Saturday there was a considerable amount of rain, and that quickly turns into thick mud and large puddles at Metro Paintball Games. Saturday morning the RaceTo-2 bracket started play in light to medium rain, but the heavy downpours had already passed. The field and staging area were very wet and muddy, but the event would go on! By mid-day the rain had cleared up, but the humidity stayed. Temperatures were near 90F, and it was extremely humid. In the RaceTo-2 Semi-Finals Extortion faced Po Boys Wasted Talent, and AAF played against Mac Daddy All Stars. Both matches only took 2 points with Extortion and AAF moving on to play for 1st. In the Finals AAF won the first 2 points to take home the Event #2 1st place title, and $1,000 towards PSP Chicago entry.

Sunday:

The weather on Sunday was still hot, but much more manageable. Temps were in the mid 80′s, but the humidity had dropped considerably and the rain had moved on. Some areas of the playing field were still very wet, but the field dried up as the day went on, and most of the mud was gone by the end of the day. The RaceTo-4 Semi Finals saw DirtLife II playing New Jack City, and Aimless Factory against AIR ASSAULT PAINTBALL to see who would move on and play for the title. Dirtlife II defeated New Jack City 4-1 to advance. Aimless Factory came back from being down 0-2 to run out the clock and beat AIR ASSAULT PAINTBALL 3-2. DirtLife II beat Aimless Factory 4-1 to win the Event #2 RaceTo-4 title, and $1,000 towards PSP Chicago entry.

Greg Paulie added:

Event #2 was hot and humid. The teams were great and fought hard all day Saturay. Some really good games were played on Saturday with AAF coming out on top. Sunday was nothing less that a beautiful day no wind sunny and 80 deg. The RaceTo-4 had some awesome matches and over times. In the end the team that had been playing strong al day ended up with the win. Dirtlife2 from St Louis took home the win and only lost 2 points all day. They were winning the break out and attacking both tapes and the center of the field.

Congrats to the top four teams in each division

If this series, is anything like what we have seen from VICIOUS over the years, you will not be disappointed. They have decided to increase their prize package. The VICIOUS Series has decided to upgrade the prize package for individual events for Division 4 RaceTo-2.

The new and improved prizes are:
3rd Place - $200 Cash & medals
4th Place - Medals

With a history of fantastic events, the VICIOUS Series only looks to be even better than before in 2010. Each event in the VICIOUS Series is put on to mimic a PSP event, with air stations in the pit area, LCD monitors in each pit displaying game time and game score, as well as superb refereeing closely resembling what is seen on the Pro field at PSP events, provided by Team VICIOUS. The VICIOUS RaceTo Series for 2010 also gives teams the ability to play 1 event (RaceTo-2 on Saturday or RaceTo-4 on Sunday) or play both events Saturday and Sunday, making it a 2-day tournament experience.

Not only is the VICIOUS Series attempting to give players a taste of a PSP tournament at the regional level, but they’re also sending 2 lucky teams to the PSP World Cup in 2010! The overall Series Champions in D4/3 RaceTo-4 and D4 RaceTo-2 will both receive trips to World Cup!

Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) has just released their 2010 affiliate program with other regional tournament series’ nationwide, along with a map depicting the locations in which these series will be held. Read on for the official statement released including dates and the regional map!

January 15, 2010 – Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP) is pleased to announce the creation of a network of affiliate regional tournament leagues that, along with the PSP, share the goal of introducing the “RaceTo” format to players throughout the country.

These affiliated leagues will work together to provide a consistent experience for players across leagues and divisions, as well as create a universal player ranking in conjunction with the APPA that fits both the regional and national levels. Over time, this system will provide a national ranking for teams at every level across the United States, allowing a player to compare his/her team to those playing in other leagues on the other side of the country. As this system grows, the ability to rank teams will extend to ranking individual players. For the first time, the sport will have a true national ranking for both categories, enabling players to measure themselves against competitors.

The affiliate leagues heading the 2010 Unified National and Regional RaceTo Format include:

Ryan Bosch, Arizona Paintball Players League (AZPPL), www.theazppl.com
Larry Motes, Carolina Field Owners Association (CFOA) Tournament Series, www.thecfoa.com
John Smith, Central Florida Paintball Series (CFPS), www.cfpsevents.com
Jeff Stein, New England Hurricanes
Lane Wright, Paintball Sports Promotions (PSP), www.pspevents.com
Carl & Karen Bortol and Greg Pauley, Vicious Series, www.pbnation.com/forumdisplay.php?f=531
Mike Hinman, West Coast Paintball Players League (WCPPL), www.wcppl.com

By partnering with these leagues and implementing player rankings, the sport of paintball will be unified from top to bottom, coast to coast. This network will continue to pursue expansion across the country with the ultimate goal of creating a more unified sport.
