New paintball bunkers from Sup'Air
February 10, 2012 in Gear
Last week we broke the news that a new set of bunkers was coming from Sup’Air. Our article highlighted that the 2012 field kit would include a revised snake side. According to ProPaintball insiders, the design was intended to help balance field play and reduce manufacturing costs.
In previous years Sup’Air has been the PSP, NPPL and Millennium Series bunker sponsor. The Millennium Series and Sup’Air/Adrenaline Games are closely related and everyone expects the new bunker kit to be part of regulation play. According to statements received by ProPaintball, the NPPL will be running the same kit that they used in 2011 with no adjustments to the snake side. No official comment or response has been made by the PSP regarding the new bunker system or if it will be part of regulation play in 2012. Only time will tell.
Photos of the new field kit surfaced on PbNation. Community member Nick Brockdorff posted several photos comparing the 2011 snake bunkers to that of the 2012 snake kit.
View from the Deadbox has a full examination and analysis of the new paintball bunkers and their impact. Check out the article here.
Will these paintball bunkers improve paintball play in 2012? How will this impact your game?
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

really not liking this change, i understand the attempt to even the field out but you have to realize the crowd is on the snake side and spectators on tv/webcast like to see big moves be made, especially when a player flies up a snake nd makes a killing. this is going to slow that down and the crowd isnt going to have much excitement to watch on their side of the field with people being prone all the time

the crowd means nothing. What big moves? The ones where the coaches yell it’s coming? So i guess its okay for the snake to just dominate the whole field simply because its the side the “crowd” is on?

it looks to me like snake players won’t be as valuable as they once were.

Bunker kits are fine by me, I like a change every once in a while. This is a little ridiculous though.

The people have spoken! Use 2011 bunker sets please!!!

This man is right. The crowd is going to now watch a guy laying on his stomach all match.. not on one knee looking for kills, actually gun battling.
If the snake guy tries to gun battle one person.. there will be 3 other shooting at him. Will make for boring games.
Now you can either get in snake 1 and have your head down.. or jump into the 50 snake and have your head down. Will make for less interesting games.

One less thing to have to stake into the ground at practice, good.
Acasper said on February 10, 2012
I am not opposed to an upgraded beam. But I would like to see the current standard, “knuckle system” still used. That or make the elbow same height.
There is a lot of room for improvements on these bunkers.

Hurray for a “snake” which actually requires you to move like one. You pups need to go back in the day where crawling was required you couldn’t fight every battle on your knees, etc.
If your snake players can’t play tight they’ll be blown out of the game and the winning team will be able to dominate.
I’m certain this will make the snake side A LOT more interesting. We’ll see if all you whiners are right, or if the winners will adjust and play effectively as they always do.

there is a reason why they stopped using this kind of snake in the first place….

No knuckles ? Horrible.
Damien / Sup'Airball said on February 12, 2012
Says who??? where did you see anything about no knuckles??? Because a practice layout didn’t have any?
The 2011 practice layout had an Xbox. Did you see one at every PSP event?
The 2011 practice layout had a ladder snake. Did you see that all season long?
No, you didn’t.
Just because JoeBlow claims on PBN or Facebook that the new bunkers will be green on the field doesn’t mean it’s true.
And please, “a full examination and analysis of the new paintball bunkers and their impact” when those bunkers were not even available and the writer doesn’t even have the dimensions of those bunkers… give me a break.

TehDopeness said on February 11, 2012
This isn’t PSP this is SUP’AIR making these bunkers. PSP has not announced if it will be using these yet.
Bubbles said on February 11, 2012
Well they need to go ahead and release a statement so we can stop holding our breath!
lance said on February 11, 2012
instead of creating something new to be this gay, why don’t they just take the tongues off the ones from 04.. call them new and be happy with it.. besides they probably have a lot of those pieces of shit laying around

Just take out the snake side, two dorito ladders
Man said on February 12, 2012
This is where PSP wants to decide if it’s a legitimate franchise or not. This is like the NBA and it’s new ball. Say fuck that, and stick to what works!!!! Go leather.
dave said on February 12, 2012
garbage. this is not good for the game at all. its a step back. I dont know why you would make such a change without consent from the players that will have to use them.
M said on February 12, 2012
So true. we snake players suck so bad that we need 5ft tall props and while we’re at it, let’s make a rule so back players are not allowed to shot at the snake.
yes, I’m twice your age.
yes, I played snake side.
yes, Paintball is a team sport and if 3 players are shooting at me, my head buried in the ground in S1, that means 2 of my teammates are moving down field and winning the game.
But hey, your sideline coach ain’t loud enough to tell your guys what to do, so you do lose that game. Good for us. We take the game and your girlfriends.
We, as a team, understand the Game. It ain’t Xbox, dummy!
blackmountain said on February 12, 2012
Good comparisons bro. Now go back and play 3 man while the rest of us actually play an actually competitive and aggressive format (which has always been snake side dominated). But yeah go ahead and steal our girlfriends…you sir need to grow the fuck up.
aaron keene said on February 12, 2012
The paintball players that care about the crowd are the ones that are in it for the wrong reason. Who gives a crap about the crowd, paintball is not a spectator sport and never will be. Keep the game pure and quit worrying about how cool you want to look. Adapt or GTFO!
Aaron Keene Is A Jackass said on February 16, 2012
Are you kidding? Every REAL paintball player wants spectators for the sake of the sport, you dumb fuck. You have absolutely NO clue what you’re going on about. Noone is trying to look cool, or just playing paintball to look cool.

I for one would like to hear the thoughts behind these new bunkers.
“revolutionise snake play” is not necessarily a positive…. nor does it cover in detail what will change, for players, teams and spectators (yeah, I already have MY thoughts on the issue, but let’s hear from Adrenaline Games).
So what exactly did Adrenaline Games think when coming up with the concept?
- What was broken, that needed fixing?
- How do they envision these bunkers making the game better?
- How will the individual snake players game change?
- How will the changed snake layout affect the balance of fields?
I have been very critical of these new bunkers, and I still am…. but maybe Adrenaline Games could come up with a rationale, that could change that?
At least, that would go a long way in removing the impression some might have, that it is a quick and dirty money grab, with no real thought of the game.
Edgar said on February 13, 2012
Yes i like the bunkers but im intimidated i think low profile on the snake will make it harder for snake players like me and easier for people to apex me lmbo
Bryan said on February 13, 2012
Not to sure about this new bunker. IMO anything that could try to be done to grow the sport should be done. To the people that say paintball is not a spectator sport, while I might agree with you on certain points of the arguement, a sport being spectator friendly is what grows a sport. That is the absolute bottom line. The paintball community has for years been trying to get our sport out there to the world to see and if you think that it shouldnt be spectator friendly then how would you convinve them(posssible investors and new players) to come watch a national event when you yourself cant grasp the concept of making it that way, which is what im sure the PSP,NPPL, and Millenium Series have been trying to do for years with a lot of great success.
Looking at the big picture here: Lets be honest with ourselves while certain players may think this new idea for the snake might make the games more challenging, you need to consider the view of someone who comes to one of the national events especially a possible investor, which type of game play do you honestly think theyd like to see played, the slow methodical or the fast paced game. We play an extreme sport boys. Yes do we avid players like these types of games, some do and some dont. Granted after possible new players or investors get to know the game a little more their opinions could change, but the first impression is everything for our sport. Allow me to say that again the FIRST IMPRESSION IS EVERYTHING FOR OUR SPORT. If a spectator who has never seen paintball before cant go to a match and enjoy himself watching it, how could you get people to even want to play if to them our sport looks boring.
All Im simply saying is that I dont see this being a good move for our sport when the first glance of paintball that they see is slow moving snake play.
OLD BUNKERS > NEW ONES said on February 13, 2012
WELL, in my opinion, these new bunkers arent benefitting the players or the sport and we should continue with the old bunker set up. just saying
