Paintball Rumor: Tippman buys ANGEL

According to Pro Paintball insiders, Tippman Sports has purchased ANGEL Paintball Sports (APS). A few weeks ago we learned that APS had ceased operations. Jay from Angel Paintball Sports mentioned that a further update would be made available by APS office in the UK.

While some details about the transaction have yet to emerge, Tippmann is rumored to have acquired both the intellectual property surrounding the Angel markers and rights to the Angel Eye goggle system. Formerly vaporware, this oft-discussed but never delivered goggle system will hopefully make it to the market sometime next year; our insiders report that the mask experienced significant functionality and performance issues that rendered it incapable of passing ASTM testing.

The acquisition of Angel Paintball Sports / WDP marks yet another key pickup for Tippmann, following the recent purchase of NXe last year, and the attempted purchase of ProCaps LP just last week. Tippmann Sports itself is no stranger to the merits of corporate buyouts–having been purchased in 2004 by investment giant, Summit Partners.

The addition of yet another tournament brand to the Tipmmann stable (in addition to WAS/Wicked Air Sportz and NXe) spells an interesting future for Tippmann–are we seeing early indicators of an entry to the tournament market? Are high-end paintball guns in Tippmann’s future?

  1. im wondering if tippmans going to stay the same and just add new features to there guns or create like a whole line by itself … i dnt know if you get what im saying but whatever lol

    1. @Taylor, I got ya!

Tippman’s current gun line up is rock solid. I would imagine this purchase would add intellectual property, a high end goggle, and an electronic marker design. If anything, I think it would be new products.

  2. Looking forward to what they come up with!

Whether they keep selling as Angel, or sell under the Tippmann name, or integrate the tech into new Tippmann designs. Will Tippmann go the BT route and start making high end electro woodsball markers with eyes? Time will tell.

Dream marker: high end electro Tippmann with eyes that accepts RAP4 D-Mags…
    Dream goggs: Angel Eyes
    Dream paint: Hydrotec

  3. As a player that has been around since an ‘Angel’ was THE marker to have, I’m so happy to hear that they are not gone. If Tippman can go in there and uncomplicate those markers, we may just get a winner once again…

    1. there was nothing complicated about them in the first place. they had a bad run in 04 and 05 so people stopped buying them, they improved the markers but kept it under the same line so people just assumed they would still have problems with the markers

  4. Tippman is building an empire between buying Angel and NXE they. It almost seems like Tippman is trying to get into speedball by buying these compnaies. Well I am very excited to see what happens to the Angel because I always loved there guns.

  5. Like Dye whom is sliding into woodsball by producing great woodsball gear. It only makes sense for a giant like Tippmann to jump into speedball with great NXe products and Angel like markers! Tippmann will be HUGE if they go this route!!

  6. Man i hope tippman doesnt try to make angel for the bush, its a company that did so much for speedball. but i can only hope and cross my fingers so that eye system! looks so intense

  7. it is now april 2013. tippmann has owned angel’s IP/factory/whatever, and nothing has come of it. they buried a legend. oh well, at least we have the amazing new crossover! right. tippmann: killing the best name in paintball and churning out 98s for almost twenty years.
