PSP Considering new Rate of Fire Changes
August 4, 2009 in PSP
Still think 10.5bps is too slow for your race2 matches? Check out the latest rumor from the PSP concerning the maximum rate of fire and the proposed changes for the 2010 season.

We’ve just received word that the PSP is considering new rate of fire changes for the 2010 season. The new proposal of 12.5bps is being considered for all divisions for the 2010 season. Sources suggest that the move to a lower bps was made to encourage movement on the field and alleviate excessive paint consumption for teams not playing free paintball. However, players this season seem primarily focused on getting to their positions and staying on their paintball guns [Ed Note: Several readers have pointed out that this may be due to the layouts rather than the BPS cap]. Paintball players have been vocal in their opinions concerning the 10.5 balls per second limit claiming that its too slow. From the sounds of the rumor, the powers that be within the PSP are saying “if they want to shoot paint, let them shoot paint.” We here at Pro Paintball dot Com are excited at the prospect of an increased rate of fire for the 2010 season.
We’ve been hearing rumors that the PSP is preparing to make some major announcements concerning the 2010 season. Be sure to stay posted to ProPaintball.com for the latest in paintball news.

hell yea propaintball, this is music to my ears

More paint in the air means more people getting blown up..and that makes for some good welts and even better photos.
Can’t wait.

Bring back the box, the box is awesome, make people suffer more for cheating. and I like 10.5 bps
Justin said on August 4, 2009
As cool as the penalties are, they require a learning curve.
D1/D2 though.. PUT EM IN THE BOX!!

while I like the decision, and would like to see it taken a step further even, i also think the layouts may have been conducive to that style of play. Many very large lanes, long runs, less bunkers creating less route options. I say this as a spectator only, but I hope they up the amount of bunkers
daniel said on August 4, 2009
Goddamit psp stick to 10.5
puss teams are going to play like puss teams nomatter how fast or slow they shoot
so let them
JP said on August 4, 2009
I think a move to 12.5 would be a good idea. I play a lot at 12.5 and it is very nice. But I agree with the above, some teams are always just going to stay and shoot lanes, changing the BPS wont do much to stop them.
And I love the pic of Parker getting messed up, lol.

Awwww poor Parker!!!

Parker is mooning the other team

this smells fishy to me said on August 4, 2009
IF people are moving less, it’s because fewer bunkers and the layouts have slowed down movement more than lowering the rate of fire has sped it up. If stagnation is the problem, upping the rate of fire will make it WORSE, not better. Make everybody play pump and there will be lots of movement! I also think they should give teams some more time to adjust to 10.5. It takes time for people to change play style and take advantage of the extra movement that can be done at 10.5. Plus, the Pros have been playing 12.5 all year – maybe the problem is the Pros are not shooting slow enough yet.

Semi-Pro is playing at 12.5 bps and those guys run all over the place. The problem with Pros is 90% of them are playing pus ball.
truth said on August 4, 2009
“well” is right. In Chicago the Semi-Pro bracket was the most exciting to watch out of everything
Idiots said on August 4, 2009
That is because the Pros are more methodical and refined in their play.
ok said on August 4, 2009
Nope they play like pussies
Drew H. said on August 4, 2009
The real test isn’t in changing the BPS, it’s in changing the FPS!
Less distance per ball means less breaks downfield and more movement throughout the field.
What do you think?
Idiots said on August 4, 2009
Sick less g’s otb, that should make games faster and less paint consumed…
…NOT!

I think your a stupid moron andrew.

I think you should learn to the difference between “your” and “you’re” before you try using it to call someone a moron Marshall.
ggkthx said on August 6, 2009
Sigh.
Before submitting I changed what I was going to say and left a completely extraneous “to” in there. :/
Plenty of fail for everybody I guess.
Kidd said on August 4, 2009
I think that they should go back to 15bps and drop the entry fees to something that every team can afford.
Dee said on August 5, 2009
Or we could go to no-limit BPS and FPS and fuck the system… or we could pull our head from our ass and look just a nit further than the end of our barrels and look at the big picture. But hey, that involve understanding there is a big picture…
Noob said on August 4, 2009
i agree with andrew, 400fps it is
Drew H. said on August 4, 2009
Decrese in FPS, not increase guys…
Andrew said on August 4, 2009
Yup 340 fps!
Lane said on August 4, 2009
PSP is not “discussing” an increase in rate of fire.
Furby said on August 4, 2009
So it’s a done deal then, Lane?
Dave said on August 4, 2009
12.5 BPS for everyone!
morron said on August 5, 2009
25 BPS and 380 FPS… i want to destroy my opponent. (and i don’t realize i will be, at one point, on the other side of a barrel)

The difference in movement from Semi to Pro is:
1)Better laning from Pros. If you keep track you will see that
percentages for making long runs, ie. snake, d1, d2 etc are
higher in Semi than in Pro (also, there are front players in
Pro who are very capable of laning people off the break).
2)Better overall reaction and shooting skills. Many more opportunity
to beat an average gun in Semi than in Pro.
3)Whereas you may have a very good player or two whose on a Semi-
Pro level. . generally speaking a Pro roster is full of players
who would make an impact in Semi-Pro.
This is not intended to belittle Semi-Pro play or players. Its how
it is and we want to see it become even more so. That is why (at least it should be) they are Pro players.
I think the move to 12.5 is a good thing.

Discussion, why don’t we have these more often?
EL said on August 4, 2009
ALL THEY DO IS KEEP CHANGING THINGS…this gives no stability to the players.PAINTBALL WILL NOT GROW WITH THE OWNERS OF PAINTBALL COMPANYS. ALL THEY WANT IS PRO PLAYERS TO PLAY FOR PEANUTS AND A HANDSHAKE…10bps or 12bps or no balls w t hexx
woodsball…charge 50 bps
Justin said on August 4, 2009
Interesting point of view..
Growth and change are good for paintball..keeps everything fresh and challenging.

whatever the rules psp decides to change for why , how , when , and what , i will always support , as i trust their knowledge and love for our sport and its players to do what is best , especially in an ecconomic crisis. psp may be the only league that really does what is needed to be done to prolong the players experience and longevity of the leagues existance. bar uspl , as they are doing a decent job too. but 12.5? good news!!(if official)
positive thinking said on August 5, 2009
I’m with you on this one. Lane has more experience than any of us, posting here, combine. Add Rob, Dave, Tony and all the other decision makers of the PSP and that’s no only experience but vision. I don’t want be a suck ass but the PSP is still there and does a hell of a job.
Give 10.5 BPS another year. Get use to it and practice hard. And let’s talk about rate of fire at the end of 2010.
It’s like asking NCAA players what they felt when the 3-point line was moved back 1 foot in 2008…
Boss said on August 5, 2009
More bunkers, higher rate of fire & ramping? Let’s not make the PSP the NASCAR of paintball. (if one car is going a little faster then another we will increase wind drag to slow them down)Increasing the # of bunkers will just make so any moron can make their bunkers and cut down the skill of players that work hard on laning. Increase rate of fire helps those that suck at laning. Ramping is bad enough, now every tool can shoot equally fast with their off hand, no need to work on that skill now. I say less bunkers, reward the guys that run fast, know what line to run and learn to slide and dive properly. It will also reward the guys that lane well and it will speed games up because slackers will be shot off the break.
Elijah said on August 5, 2009
People complain too much. Now that it is faster, everyone is complaining about not shooting fast. PSP should just invest more time in practical layouts that make for a more aggressive game. right now it’s almost like d1 and s1 are pretty much “gimmes” while getting past it is ridiculously difficult(save for the people who happen to catch teams off guard/lucky people(the 1st usually get shot stupid anyway)). So focus on the layout more than how much paint is ocming out, MAYBE put it up to a solid 11 or 11.5, but not 12 again.
daniel said on August 5, 2009
they did make a harder layout,
it was called chicago 09
the snake was very hard for some teams to get in
nomatter what people are going to complain
that's his point said on August 5, 2009
In the Chciago layout, making it up either side of the field was very difficult, which leads to slow games. If the layouts were such that it was harder to make the primary but not so hard to make the 50′s, then you’d have more people shot on the break, and more people moving up after the break.

What about going to semi auto? Technological advancements should be able to put the cheaters on the chopping block. What about a PSP board made specifically for the league with player id numbers?, just add the charge to the ID cards. Boards arnt expensive to produce……..
Spoken like a true fool said on August 7, 2009
Yes, lets produce boards for Ego, Dm, Impulse, Shocker, and every other gun, that’s cheap and easy too. Any Tom, Dick and _ can do that….
paintballic_sp_89 said on August 10, 2009
keep it it low paintball is going no where, what you get is just more idiot shooting uncaped (daddy s money) thinking there good the real fun is on semi “/%? those cheater who make that happen
from what i seen past year paintball will be in the wood again and will talk about good old day of speedball.
